First Annual Skate-A-Thon Fundraiser Event to benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children

Shriners Hospitals for Children
Do you have what it takes to outlast the others and be crowned a champion of our skate-a-thon? On Sunday, March 10 at 5:30 p.m., hit the ice for a great cause: to raise money for Shriners Hospital for Children. Leading up to our first annual Skate for Scoliosis Skate-a-thon, participants collect pledges for every lap they might complete in a one-hour skate, or sponsors can make a flat donation. Then, skaters, motivated by music from DJ Sam LoPiccolo, rack up as many pledge dollars as possible by completing as many laps as they can. At the end of the hour, prizes will be awarded for the highest lap count and the most pledges raised. Hot drinks and warm snacks will be provided, and each skater will receive a token of participation.
Interested in helping us reach our donation goal of $500? Skaters and observers alike are welcome, but if you want to take the challenge out on the ice, be sure to register soon as spots are limited.

Why Ice Skating?
This fundraiser was created to remember my mother - Elaine G. Prata - a fighter of scoliosis. Elaine had a passion for ice skating as a child, and was even visited by the Ice-capades back in the late 1960's. Elaines passion for skating was one of the many hobbies that kept her focused on fighting her Scoliosis. Full body casts, fused discs in her spine, numerous surgeries as a child, and even a curvature greater than 90 degrees never slowed her down, though she was taken down a few times, she was never out of the fight. Elaine lost her battle with this incurable disease this past November, and her Son, David, created this fundraiser on behalf of the Prata family to honor her memory.
